Summary

The children who appeared in Five Children and It and The Story of the Amulet have more adventures with a magic carpet which transports them wherever they wish to go. Inside the carpet is a strange egg from which hatches out the Phoenix, an ancient and honourable bird, but not much easier to handle than the Psammead.
