The Lights of Annapolis

by Scott H. Delo

Summary

Sean Bender, a novelist from Manhattan, returns to Annapolis after a long absence to attend his best friend’s funeral. The police attribute his friend’s death to suicide, but that doesn’t make sense to Sean. Chuck O’Malley was never a quitter, and Sean couldn’t see him taking his own life. After the funeral, Chuck’s lawyer tells Sean to stay in town for a few days. Chuck has left him something substantial, and it will take that long for the will to pass through probate. Sean uses the time to investigate what happened to Chuck. This involves exploring both the city and the people who played an important part in Chuck’s life. It also means going back in time to examine the complicated history that Sean had with Chuck and with Chuck’s widow, the only woman Sean has ever loved.
