Sufism and Shari'ah: A Study of Shaykh Ahmad Sirhindi's Effort to Reform Sufism

by Muhammad Abdul-Haqq Ansari

Summary

Sufism and Shariah is a study of religious thought of an outstanding Sufi and a great renovator of Islam, Shaykh Ahmed Sirhindi(d. 1034/1624). But more than that it is an investigation into the relation of sufism with prophetic Islam, not only in the light of ideas of sirhindi but also of many great leaders of sufism and founders of sufi orders. It tries to distinguish between sufism which has place in Islam and that which does not.
