On 23 August 1939 Hitler and Stalin signed a mutual non-aggression pact which is seen here as the most crucial factor in Hitler's early success against the Allies and a fatal misjudgement of Hitler's intentions. This book analyzes Hitler and Stalin's motives and chronicles the events leading to the signing of the pact and the developments between August 1939 and June 1941 as the two dictators prepared to carve up the continent of Europe.
