Tyrconnel: An Antebellum Adventure Along the C&O Canal

Summary
Charles Shirley Furtney was born in West Virginia in 1915. While
growing up, he was a frequent visitor to family homes in Maryland,
including Tyrconnel of the title and the neighboring Covington Park.
Long fascinated by family stories and the local history, he conceived
the idea of the book while an undergraduate at the University of
Maryland in the 1930s. He set the project aside while raising a
family and enjoying a long career as an engineer in the steel
industry; after retirement, he returned to telling his tale of
adventure centered on the C&O Canal in pre-Civil War Maryland.
