Voices in the Air: The Fascination of Radio

Summary
From page 3, "This is not a ‘How to’ book. There are many good ones already on the shelves in book stores and libraries. Rather, it is more of a ‘Why to’ book. It tells a story about radio. More specifically, a story about the hobby of shortwave radio communication. It begins with a small spark of interest and, through the eyes of the author it illustrates the development of this spark into a lifetime of fascinating experiences and satisfying accomplishments. Anything interesting can become a hobby, but in addition to being interested, one must also be fascinated by something before it can become a serious and enduring hobby. Then follows knowledge of the subject and the satisfaction that results. This progression from interest to fascination to knowledge to satisfaction will be evident in the chapters of this book. All of the names, dates, places, and events described in this book are real. It is non-technical in nature, although a few simple explanations are given where helpful. Radio ‘Old Timers’ and newcomers alike will enjoy this book. Old Timers, because they will find nostalgic and humorous glimpses of their own hobby. Newcomers, because they will discover what the Old Timers already know about the fascination of radio. And those who have no particular interest in radio at all will learn how curiosity about something can develop into an interesting and satisfying hobby."
