A Guide to Architectural Styles

Summary
381 illustrations, 14 in colour
The history of architectural styles is the history of man's need for security and shelter, comfort, decoration and individuality as manifested in his buildings over the ages. This book looks at the historical emergence of architectural styles in the western tradition as well as in non-European cultures, from prehistory to the present day, illustrating each style with photographs, plans and drawings.
The book also contains pictorial display of the main features which distinguish styles in key architectural elements such as columns, capitals, doors and windows and facades, and ends with a glossary of architectural terms.
